All SentryNet Operators are SIA Certified.
SentryNet operators are required to pass the SIA Central Station Operators Course. This course is the first of its kind in the Security Industry. This standardized training for those who handle the processing of alarms is a culmination of a project by the Security Industry Association (SIA) of Washington, DC. SIA is a trade association of suppliers in the Security Industry. Their mission is to promote the growth and professionalism of the industry.
The material for the course was developed under contract with APCO Institute, Inc. APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International, Inc.) is a membership organization consisting of over twelve thousand public safety communications professionals from around the world. APCO Institute, it's education and training subsidiary, designs and conducts training for public safety communications professionals throughout the world. APCO's extensive experience in training communications operators has helped bring this training to the security industry.
The Central Station Operator Course is designed for new alarm monitoring personnel to provide a general overview of the alarm industry and to also provide specific skill and knowledge training as applicable to the company for which the operator works. The course is taught by SIA-Certified Central Station Instructors. Each Operator is tested at the end of the course and must score at least 70% before working as an Operator.
